USA Trip May 2024 - Personal Tour - San Francisco - Lombard Street 九曲花街

Lombard Street is an east–west street in San Francisco, California, that is famous for a steep, one-block section with eight hairpin turns. The street stretches from The Presidio east to The Embarcadero. Most of Lombard Street's western segment is a major thoroughfare designated as part of U.S. Route 101.

Lombard Street is an east–west street in San Francisco, California, that is famous for a steep, one-block section with eight hairpin turns.

Every year, millions of visitors walk or drive down its eight sharp hairpin turns. Surrounded by Russian Hill mansions and perfectly manicured landscaping and flowers, it is also one of the city's most scenic streets.
Lombard Street stars in other chase scenes, including the 1972 comedy, "What's Up, Doc?" starring Barbra Streisand, and "Foul Play," a 1978 comedy starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. In the 1968 film "The Love Bug," Herbie, the VW Beetle takes on the turns, and the 1972 sci-fi comedy "Dr.
If you're on foot, you can walk the street, carefully hugging the bushes (cars have been known to jump the curb); or climb up and down the public stairways on either side of the street.
A walk on Lombard Street gives you more time to take in everything without worrying about accidental scrapes, discombobulated pedestrians, and barf bags. To get there, zoom in on any map and look for the squiggly section of Lombard between Hyde and Leavenworth.

The best locations to capture this unique landmark are Lombard Street at Hyde Street, Coit Tower at Lombard Street and Grant Street, and Lombard Street at Leavenworth Street
Lombard Street is known for the one-way block on Russian Hill between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets, where eight sharp turns are said to make it the most crooked street in the world.
And so it was done. The 600-foot stretch added those eight turns that give it that distinct appearance, and later on, in the late 1930s, it became a one-way street (going down) to further improve safety. It didn't become quite the tourist attraction it is now overnight, though.
Even though Lombard Street is billed as the crookedest street in the world, it is not even the most crooked or steepest street in San Francisco.
