San Francisco’s cable cars, aka streetcars, aren’t just an entertaining way to sightsee around this up-and-down city; they really function as public transit too. Hanging onto the outside (yes, the outside) of one of these clanging trolleys, chugging through Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf, and other city neighborhoods—well, it doesn’t get much more San Francisco than this. Just count how many package- and computer-toting locals climb on and hop off as you ride. In summer, lines can get long at the turnaround at Powell and Market Streets, especially for the Powell-Mason Cable Car line. This can provide a good opportunity to see cars arriving and getting turned around on the massive turntable, but if you want a shorter wait, you can get just as good a ride on the quieter Powell-Hyde Cable Car line, or you can board a car at any of the en-route stops.

For a fascinating look at how the historic cars have crisscrossed the city since 1873, visit the free Cable Car Museum, where you can see three antique cars from the 1870s and gain an understanding of how the cables that power the cars actually work.

No experience is more uniquely San Francisco than a ride on a cable car. Cable cars have come to symbolize our great city (along with another world-renowned transportation icon. Hint: it's a suspension bridge painted an International Orange color.) After all, we're the city that first launched cars pulled along by cables running beneath the street.

Invented here nearly 150 years ago and named a National Historic Landmark in 1964, today's San Francisco cable cars are kept in tip-top shape by our agency.

Riding Cable Cars

It's easy to find and board a cable car. Choose from three cable car lines - two start at Powell and Market and continue to the Fisherman's Wharf area; one starts at California and Market and continues to Van Ness Avenue. Board at the cable car turntables (the beginning or end of each route) or look for the brown-and-white cable car sign post.

San Francisco Cable Car Routes

Fisherman's Wharf is served by two cable car lines: the Powell-Hyde line on Hyde and Beach Streets (Aquatic Park near Ghirardelli Square), and the Powell-Mason line on Taylor and Bay Streets (middle of Fisherman's Wharf area, a few blocks from Pier 45 at Taylor and Bay Street).

Fisherman’s Wharf
Fisherman’s Wharf, on the northern waterfront, is one of the city's busiest tourist areas. Souvenir shops and stalls selling crab and clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls appear at every turn, as do postcard views of the bay, Golden Gate and Alcatraz. There’s also a colony of sea lions to see and historic ships to tour. At Ghirardelli Square, boutiques and eateries reside in the famed former chocolate factory.

San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf is a world famous tourist attraction and a thriving and vibrant local neighborhood and commercial area. Home to world-class dining, shopping, hotels and endless entertainment opportunities, the Wharf is truly the place to start your San Francisco experience.

We loved this place, probably the best seaside pier area we have been to. Much better than the pier at Santa Monica in LA. Bustling atmosphere, loads of great eateries, great shops (some quite reasonably priced) and good fun and games - there was a street magician when we went.

Boudin Bakery is a bakery based in San Francisco, California, known for its sourdough bread. The bakery is recognized as the "oldest continually operating business in San Francisco.
Boudin's famous San Francisco Sourdough French Bread originated in 1849, in a tiny, old-world bakery on Dupont Street. There, a French immigrant named Isidore Boudin first kneaded a hearty dough, fermented with wild yeast and then formed it into the shape of a traditional French loaf.
In 1973 GMUNDNER FERTIGTEILE introduced the BODAN level crossing systems as a licensee and became in 1984 owner of all BODAN patents worldwide.

漁人碼頭必吃美食,酸麵包+蛤蠣巧達濃湯的經典麵包湯組合

The San Franciscan obsession with clam chowder dates back to the mid-1800s, with the timeless dish traditionally served in a sourdough bread bowl. Over time, clam chowder fisherman's wharf style has been modified to become the culinary staple it is today.
Why is clam chowder so popular?
Either Nova Scotian, French, or English settlers first introduced clam chowder to people in New England, and it gained popularity for its savory flavor.

Candy shop? Chocolate shop?

Hop on hop off in San Francisco is worth it just because of the difference in altitude. The information is really interesting! The sundowner tour is nice, but you shouldn't expect a sunset over the skyline as it changes daily. You can arrive on Treasure Island in the dark or in the light!

Home to San Francisco originals, live performances, excellent dining, incredible views, and close proximity to a number of other attractions, it's no wonder that PIER 39 is second only to Alcatraz among our city's most visited destinations.
Services depart hourly, and operate every day. The journey takes approximately 15 min. How far is it from Pier 39 to Alcatraz? The distance between Pier 39 and Alcatraz is 2 miles.

Departs from Alcatraz Landing - Pier 33

No trip to San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf is complete without a trip to Alcatraz Island. From the many vantage points along the piers at the Wharf, you’ll be able to see some remarkable views of this 22-acre island. The Island is run by the National Park Service who contracts with one operator, Alcatraz Cruises, to ferry people to and from the island. They depart from Pier 33 and tickets usually sell-out 2-3 weeks in advance so plan ahead!  If you simply want to cruise around the island, both Blue & Gold Fleet (PIER 39) and the Red & White Fleet (Pier 43 1/2) include this in their Bay tours.

After consulting with experts at The Marine Mammal Center about how to deal with the new arrivals, the tenants decided to let the sea lions stay and the anniversary of their arrival has become an annual event. Today, visitors can see sea lions at Pier 39 almost every day.
