Ephesus (EFES)

Ephesus is an ancient city in Turkey’s Central Aegean region, near modern-day Selçuk. Its excavated remains reflect centuries of history, from classical Greece to the Roman Empire – when it was the Mediterranean’s main commercial center – to the spread of Christianity. Paved streets wind past squares, baths and monumental ruins. The Temple of Hadrian was built before 138 A.D. for Emperor Hadrian’s visit.

Why was Ephesus abandoned?
In the sixth and seventh centuries A.D., a massive earthquake and the harbor's continuing decline left Ephesus a shell of the city it used to be, and Arab invasions forced most of the population of Ephesus to flee and start a new settlement.

Is Ephesus in Turkey or Greece?
The city of Ephesus was one of the largest and most important cities in the ancient Mediterranean world, lying on the western coast of Asia Minor (in modern day Turkey). It was one of the oldest Greek settlements on the Aegean Sea, and later the provincial seat of Roman government in Asia.

What is this? PANGSAI place lah....
One side pangsai, one side chichat.......

Ephesus is mentioned in the Bible several times. It is a city where the apostle Paul preached and it is the subject of the Book of Ephesians. It is also said to have been the place where Mary, mother of Jesus, lived in her final years.

The city was famous in its day for the nearby Temple of Artemis (completed around 550 BC), which has been designated one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its many monumental buildings included the Library of Celsus and a theatre capable of holding 24,000 spectators.

The “Turkish ice cream trick” refers to a popular and entertaining technique used by street vendors in Turkey who sell a type of ice cream called “dondurma.” Dondurma has a unique texture that is stretchy and chewy, thanks to the addition of a natural thickening agent called salep.

VIDEO CLIP :
Vendors often tease the customer by serving the ice cream cone on a stick, and then taking away the dondurma with the stick by rotating it around before finally giving it to the customer.

Touyou waiting us for 20 min here since we bought BELT after ice cream session...heee!

Pamukkale

We can see second alternate place for Hot Air Ballon (Pamukkale).

Fresh deposits of calcium carbonate give these formations a dazzling white coating. The Turkish name Pamukkale, meaning “cotton castle”, is derived from this striking landscape.

Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. The area is famous for a carbonate mineral left by the flowing of thermal spring water.

The best time for a swim is in the morning or later in the day. Pamukkale is not very popular in winter, so any time of the day is perfect to dip in the healing waters. The water of the pool is shallow which makes it perfect for kids to swim too.

The water temperature is about 35.6 degrees Celsius (96 Fahrenheit) for the source and about 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit) in the travertines.

Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. The area is famous for a carbonate mineral left by the flowing of thermal spring water.

Pamukkale is a town in western Turkey known for the mineral-rich thermal waters flowing down white travertine terraces on a nearby hillside. It neighbors Hierapolis, an ancient Roman spa city founded around 190 B.C. Ruins there include a well-preserved theater and a necropolis with sarcophagi that stretch for 2km. The Antique Pool is famous for its submerged Roman columns, the result of an earthquake.

Hierapolis-Pamukkale

Deriving from springs in a cliff almost 200 m high overlooking the plain, calcite-laden waters have created at Pamukkale (Cotton Palace) an unreal landscape, made up of mineral forests, petrified waterfalls and a series of terraced basins. At the end of the 2nd century B.C. the dynasty of the Attalids, the kings of Pergamon, established the thermal spa of Hierapolis. The ruins of the baths, temples and other Greek monuments can be seen at the site.
