Hampton by Hilton Canakkale Gelibolu - Leaving this hotel by 7AM and heading to WOODEN HOUSE (Hollywood) - TROY.

An enormous wooden horse presides over the marina in Çanakkale, a small port city southwest of Istanbul. The clapboard animal is a mock-up of the Trojan Horse of mythological fame. Some may recognize this specific horse from the 2004 movie “Troy.”

Is Troy based off a true story?
Whether there is any historical reality behind the Trojan War remains an open question. Many scholars believe that there is a historical core to the tale, though this may simply mean that the Homeric stories are a fusion of various tales of sieges and expeditions by Mycenaean Greeks during the Bronze Age.

Çanakkale - Wooden Horse (Troy)

The Trojan Horse was a wooden horse said to have been used by the Greeks during the Trojan War to enter the city of Troy and win the war. The Trojan Horse is not mentioned in Homer's Iliad, with the poem ending before the war is concluded, and it is only briefly mentioned in the Odyssey. But in the Aeneid by Virgil, after a fruitless 10-year siege, the Greeks constructed a huge wooden horse at the behest of Odysseus, and hid a select force of men inside, including Odysseus himself. The Greeks pretended to sail away, and the Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy. That night, the Greek force crept out of the horse and opened the gates for the rest of the Greek army, which had sailed back under the cover of darkness. The Greeks entered and destroyed the city, ending the war.

Metaphorically, a "Trojan horse" has come to mean any trick or stratagem that causes a target to invite a foe into a securely protected bastion or place. A malicious computer program that tricks users into willingly running it is also called a "Trojan horse" or simply a "Trojan".

TROY ANCIENT CITY
Troy or Ilion was an ancient city located in present-day Hisarlik, Turkey. It is best known as the setting for the Greek myth of the Trojan War. The archaeological site is open to the public as a tourist destination, and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1998.

TROY ANCIENT CITY

TROY ANCIENT CITY

Troy is an ancient city and archaeological site in modern-day Turkey, but is also famously the setting for the legendary Trojan War in Homer's epic poems the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey."

In legend, the city of Troy was besieged for 10 years and eventually conquered by a Greek army led by King Agamemnon. This "Trojan War erupted because Helen, a queen from Sparta, was abducted by Paris, the son of Troy's King Priam, according to Homer's epic poem "Iliad." Throughout the "Iliad," the gods constantly intervene in support of characters on both sides of the conflict.

Troy also refers to a real ancient city, also known as Hisarlik, located on the northwest coast of Turkey, which has been identified by many as the legendary Troy featured in Homer's poems." Whether the Trojan War actually took place, and whether the site in northwest Turkey is the same Troy, are matters of debate.

The History of Pergamon

Pergamon is located in the North Aegean, in the middle of the valley extending to the east and west of the Bakırçay Basin. Kozak surrounds it in the North and Yund Mountains in the South. As a result of the research, it was determined that the city's history dates back to the Ancient Bronze Age (3000 BC), but it was not determined exactly which tribes lived. According to estimates, it is thought to be a route passed by nomadic people for centuries. Pergamon (Bergama in Turkish), which was the capital of the Kingdom of Pergamon for a period and then of Asia Minor, is one of the few ancient cities in the world in terms of its size, history, and importance. In this article, you can find the history of the Pergamon Acropolis, where excavations and rescue activities have been going on for about 140 years, the places to see step by step, and many more.

It is not known exactly when the settlement lived in the Acropolis area, as in the history of Pergamon. As a result of the excavations, it was determined that the oldest settlements built here date back to 7-6 centuries BC. Due to the topographical difficulty of the area where the acropolis area is located, that is to say, it is not a natural flat, space has been gained by "terracing the land," and therefore, it has unique urban order and planning. Simultaneously, the fact that the city, which was built on the hill, remained on the hill for centuries by not sliding downwards despite the new buildings built over time, the erosion and earthquakes, gives an idea about the architecture of the Pergamon Acropolis.

It is not certain who founded Pergamon, but two different names stand out in written sources. Pausanias, a traveler and geographer from Lydia wrote in his book "Description of Greece," He wrote his travels from Greece to Egypt, that Pergamon was founded by the hero Pergamos. In another source, it is written that Pergamon was founded by Telephos, son of Heracles. However, the most definite and accepted information about Pergamon is accepted as the book "Ten thousands" written by Xenophon, who was a student of Greek Philosopher Socrates between 400-399 BC. Xenophon mentions that he stopped by Pergamon between 400-399 BC and stayed at the house of Gongylos of Eretria, who was a local administrator.

One of Turkey's most impressive archaeological sites, Bergama's acropolis is dramatically sited on a hill to the northeast of the town centre.

Pergamon Acropolis Archeological Site dating back to the 3rd century BC, the Acropolis in Izmir province has preserved many of its structures and works of art. Built on several levels of mounds, the ancient site of Pergamon Acropolis is extraordinarily rich in archeological findings.

Many architectural remains such as the Sanctuary of Athena, the altar of Zeus, the Library of Pergamon, the heroons and Arsenal can be seen in full detail.

Pergamon Acropolis

The Acropolis of Pergamum (Pergamon) is certainly dramatic, perched atop a high, steep-sided hill to the northeast of the modern city center.

The great temples and dramatic theater are visible from anywhere in the city, as they were meant to be.
