BABABANANA! Potato! Bello! The Minions of the Despicable Me animated movie series are pran-cing about in Butterworth, Penang.
A 4.57m-tall, grouchy-looking Dave in prison uniform is standing on Dataran Pemuda Merdeka in Jalan Haji Ahmad Said.
Another 9.75m-long, cheery Dave — made from artificial flowers -— is spread on the field.
And life-size cutouts of 46 other Minions along with Gru, Dru, Lucy, Edith, Margo, Agnes and Balthaza provide myriad photo opportunities.
Called ‘Penang Fun Experience with Despicable Me’, the merriment will be in Butterworth from now until Sept 3.
It will be open from noon to 10pm on weekdays and 10am to 10pm on weekends. Admission is free.

To make it memorable for Hari Raya, Despicable Me will be screened on a giant LCD panel called Starlight Cinema tomorrow from 8pm to 10pm, and Despicable Me 2 on Monday, 8pm to 10pm.
Both films will then be screened every Friday and Saturday respectively at those times until Sept 3.
Visitors can bring along picnic baskets, mats or stools and watch the movies on the field with their loved ones under the stars.
Come July 1, the Despicable Me 3 dome of about 1,400sq m will open and more life-size figures of the latest characters of the movie will be displayed with merchandise for sale.
There will be a surprise ‘Penang Corner’ of Minions with the state’s icons such as Komtar and the ferry.
Live mascots of Gru, Kevin and Stuart will also bob around in 20-minute sessions to pose for pictures with people.
At the launch on Thursday night, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said this was part of Hari Raya and National Day celebrations as “a gift for Penangites”.
The event is sponsored by the state and organised by JWL Resources Asia Sdn Bhd with Seberang Prai Municipal Council and Penang Global Tourism.
