Bon Odori Festival Penang 2022

We planned to visit Esplanade Penang for Bon Odori Festival 30 July 2022.

We parked our car at PENANG SENTRAL.

We took SPEED BOAT cross to Penang. The fun thing here - the boat ticket is FOC for Malaysian....haaa!

Penang Sentral is an intermodal transit-oriented development in Butterworth, Penang, Malaysia. Proposed as the main transportation hub for the State of Penang, and by extension, Greater Penang, the first phase of the Penang Sentral project opened on 22 November 2018.

We took a stop in 3rd floor at Penang Sentral...nice view there....

Penang Sentral Bus Terminal

Penang Sentral is the main transportation hub for Penang State as well as the northern area of Peninsular Malaysia. It is also a nice place to hang out where you can get a spectacular view of the sunset while watching the ferries arriving and departing from the terminal. The terminal is located in Butterworth, Seberang Perai and it connects the passengers from the train, ferry and bus services to ease the journey for the travellers.

It was opened in November 2018 to provide an integrated system for bus, rail, and ferry transportation services. Previously, Butterworth Bus Terminal served as the main bus terminal in Butterworth. After the opening of Penang Sentral, Butterworth Bus Terminal has closed and bus operations are moved to Penang Sentral Bus Terminal.

Penang sentral provide many transportation to the public such as bus, ferry, taxi and train. There are many food shops in the Penang Sentral such as 4 Finger, .

Not a user friend logistic arrangement...since all visitors need to climbs up / clumbs down to go into the boat......it is a tough job for old folks!

The Bon Odori Festival is back this upcoming Saturday, July 30th at the Esplanade (Padang Kota Lama) after a two-year hiatus.

Penang Bon Odori Festival. Event Date 30 Jul 2022. This festival is a Japanese Buddhist observance that ... 5.00pm - 11.00pm. Address Esplanade Pulau Pinang.

Bon Odori returns to Penang this Saturday. Festival to feature over 100 stalls offering Japanese food, cultural items, says state tourism exco.

Bon Odori (Japanese: 盆踊り), meaning simply Bon dance, is a style of dancing performed during Obon.

Tracing its roots back to Japan, Bon Odori evolved out of the Odori Nembutsu, a popular Buddhist chant and dance from the late Heian (794 - 1185) and Kamakura (1185 - 1333) periods. By the 1600s, it became widespread and very popular in rural communities, providing a break from farm life.
